If you’d like to come and have a try out, we’d love to see you at our workshop on Sunday the 8th of January. That’s at Green Moor Chapel, S35 7DX from 2 till 5pm. Even if you’ve never sung before, why not come along and have a go, see if you like it? We’d love to see you there!
Our annual choir trip away has been arranged for 22nd-25th September 2023. We will be staying in the beautiful Lake District and performing with the wonderful Whitehaven Male Voice Choir. Full details and exact costs to follow.
During our recent joint concert, we found that a member of their choir, Chris Bryant, had been recently diagnosed with a serious illness, and was receiving end of life care. He has now passed away. Ray, our outgoing chairman, has passed on condolences to his wife Myra, to his family, and to the members of Bristol Male Voice Choir.
What a fabulous time we’ve had in Bristol. Thursday 3rd Sept – a wonderful concert in Bristol Cathedral, wonderful acoustics for a selection of sacred pieces.
Friday 4th Sept a after a day out in Bath, we welcome the gents of Bristol MVC and their MD Jo to a social evening! What a wonderful evening, where new friends were made, and much fun and laughter was heard. Performances from 15+ choir members and friends, with a presentation of Yorkshire goodies to the boys of BMVC, after which they led us in a singalong to end the most amazing night! Saturday 5th night – all up for a morning rehearsal with Rachel and Philip… after which we enjoyed a trip to Bristol to see the SS Brunel, and the canal basin. Some of us even went on the Ferris Wheel… Back for an amazing meal (the Hilton food in Bristol comes highly recommended), before a joint concert. What a found those joint items made! We finished our evening with an afterglow in the bar. It was so energetic the staff found it tricky to call last orders! Much singing and laughter (and some dancing) was still going on until the small hours.
Thank you to Ray and Steve for all their organisation! Everyone has had a smashing time, and can’t wait for our 2023 trip… soon to be unveiled! (But a little birdie tells us it might be to the Lake District!)
We had planned to have a new photograph in July, before our annual trip. Unfortunately, we’re likely to have quite a few members missing, so this has been postponed. Please just turn up as normal for practice, don’t bring your uniform.
New date is Monday 8th August: 7.15pm
Thank you all for turning out so smartly – a fabulous photo.
We will be having a concert at St Saviour’s Church, Thurlstone, on Sunday the 5th of June at 3pm.
There are a number of events over the Jubilee weekend, so we hope you have time to come to this one as well. The choir will be performing some of our current pieces, and we’ll be having a few popular pieces for the audience to join in as well.
If you’ve never visited St Saviour’s Church, it’s a lovely place, well worth a visit in any case, and the acoustics are lovely!
Tickets are £6 each, available from choir members in advance, or on the door.
We’ve now completed our second concert this year, at St Saviour’s Church, Thurlstone. This time we were with the Jubilee Singers, and a thoroughly enjoyable evening it was.
We’re now looking forward to our next concert, where we’re performing on Sunday the 5th of June, again at St Saviours Church in Thurlstone, this time as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
We’re almost there for our first performance since our Celebrity Concert was cancelled in 2020. We’re really looking forward to performing at the Paramount in Penistone, with our special guests, Old Silkstone Band.
After we’ve had our concert, which we hope will be a great success, we’ll be moving the rehearsals back to our permanent home at Millhouse Green Institute. This means that next week’s rehearsal on the 14tyh of March will be our last one at St Mary’s Church in Penistone.
