Male Choir Conference – Peterborough 2023
A huge thank you to Peterborough Male Voice and their team for hosting over 40 lower voice choirs and their teams for a thought provoking conference. Our MD Rachel, 3 committee members and a top tenor (our youngest member!) spent the day in Peterborough.
Fact: In the past decade, 1 in 3 male singing groups have ceased to exist. And a challenge to the groups there – how are we going to move forward for growth and security? Some very hard hitting talks, and inspirational stories. Lots and lots for our committee to discuss!
Saying Goodbye
A joy and a privilege as well as sad occasions – In the past 4 weeks, the MGMVC have sung at 2 funerals, in Jan at Grenoside crematorium we sang Schubert’s An Die Music, alongside Cym Rhondda (Guide me Oh) to mark the life of Baritone John Briggs.
Today the gents have sung at Thurlstone St Saviour’s as we said goodbye to our treasured bass John Wood.He chose his own music – ‘What Would I Do Without My Music’ and Gwahoddiad. We joined with Graham and the Thurlstone band for Love Divine.
At our concert on April 1st, we are going to start our program with ’He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’ as a tribute to both these wonderful men. they leave a huge hole in our choir and in our hearts.
Celebrity Concert 1st April
Tickets are now available from the Penistone Paramount website for our concert with the South Yorkshire Police Band.

During our recent joint concert, we found that a member of their choir, Chris Bryant, had been recently diagnosed with a serious illness, and was receiving end of life care. He has now passed away. Ray, our outgoing chairman, has passed on condolences to his wife Myra, to his family, and to the members of Bristol Male Voice Choir.
Choir weekend away 2022!
What a fabulous time we’ve had in Bristol.
Thursday 3rd Sept – a wonderful concert in Bristol Cathedral, wonderful acoustics for a selection of sacred pieces.
Friday 4th Sept a after a day out in Bath, we welcome the gents of Bristol MVC and their MD Jo to a social evening! What a wonderful evening, where new friends were made, and much fun and laughter was heard. Performances from 15+ choir members and friends, with a presentation of Yorkshire goodies to the boys of BMVC, after which they led us in a singalong to end the most amazing night!
Saturday 5th night – all up for a morning rehearsal with Rachel and Philip… after which we enjoyed a trip to Bristol to see the SS Brunel, and the canal basin. Some of us even went on the Ferris Wheel…
Back for an amazing meal (the Hilton food in Bristol comes highly recommended), before a joint concert. What a found those joint items made!
We finished our evening with an afterglow in the bar. It was so energetic the staff found it tricky to call last orders! Much singing and laughter (and some dancing) was still going on until the small hours.
Thank you to Ray and Steve for all their organisation! Everyone has had a smashing time, and can’t wait for our 2023 trip… soon to be unveiled! (But a little birdie tells us it might be to the Lake District!)
