A huge thank you to Peterborough Male Voice and their team for hosting over 40 lower voice choirs and their teams for a thought provoking conference. Our MD Rachel, 3 committee members and a top tenor (our youngest member!) spent the day in Peterborough.
Fact: In the past decade, 1 in 3 male singing groups have ceased to exist. And a challenge to the groups there – how are we going to move forward for growth and security? Some very hard hitting talks, and inspirational stories. Lots and lots for our committee to discuss!
A joy and a privilege as well as sad occasions – In the past 4 weeks, the MGMVC have sung at 2 funerals, in Jan at Grenoside crematorium we sang Schubert’s An Die Music, alongside Cym Rhondda (Guide me Oh) to mark the life of Baritone John Briggs. Today the gents have sung at Thurlstone St Saviour’s as we said goodbye to our treasured bass John Wood.He chose his own music – ‘What Would I Do Without My Music’ and Gwahoddiad. We joined with Graham and the Thurlstone band for Love Divine.
At our concert on April 1st, we are going to start our program with ’He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’ as a tribute to both these wonderful men. they leave a huge hole in our choir and in our hearts.
